Hiab hire

One truck to lift, cart and place it

A hiab is a truck with its own crane, so we can load your item, drive it to site and set it down exactly where it needs to go, without hiring a separate crane. It’s quicker, cheaper and safer for most jobs under five and a half tonnes.

Since Crane Trucks joined RMJ in May 2026 we’ve had an even bigger fleet to call on, so if your job needs more lift or reach, ask us.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Our main hiab truck lifts up to 5.5 tonnes and reaches 16 metres, which covers most containers, building materials, sleep-outs, tiny homes, silos, machinery and portable buildings. For heavier or longer-reach lifts, call us and we’ll match the job to the right truck in our fleet.

Hiab hire is priced per job, based on the weight of the load, the distance travelled and how easy the site is to work on. Call us or send the details through the quote form and we’ll give you a clear, obligation-free price.

Yes. Sleep-outs and tiny homes are some of our most common hiab jobs. We lift them onto the deck, transport them and set them down where you want them, and we can pilot the load too if it’s over-width.

Yes. We deliver, collect and place shipping containers across Canterbury with the hiab, so there’s no need to hire a separate crane to unload.

Tell us about access, ground conditions, slopes and any overhead power lines when you book. Our operators follow WorkSafe New Zealand guidance, including keeping at least 4 metres between the crane or load and any power line, so knowing the site helps us plan a safe lift.

Yes. Our hiab has a grapple attachment for handling posts and poles, which makes fencing, vineyard and farm jobs quick and safe.
